Bridging the Gap

A simple way to replace a missing tooth is with a traditional dental bridge that fills the gap and restores your brilliant smile.

With a conventional bridge, the two natural teeth on either side of the gap are used as anchors for the bridge that will be cemented to the teeth and fill the space.

The Process

How We Install A Bridge

Having a bridge put in place usually takes 2 appointments.

1st Visit

During your first visit, we prepare the healthy teeth on both sides of the gap and take impressions that we will use to build the new bridge.

2nd Visit

The second appointment usually occurs about two weeks later. During this visit we fit the bridge and make any adjustments so that it looks and feels as natural as possible.

FAQs

What will my bridge be made from?

Bridges can be made from many different materials but the most common is porcelain. Porcelain is popular because it is free from metals, looks natural and more closely matches the colour of your natural teeth.

Will it hurt to have a bridge put in place?

Your North Hill dentist is highly trained and skilled and uses the latest techniques and technology to make the treatment as comfortable and pain free as possible. However, you may experience a small amount of sensitivity for a few days after the procedure, but it generally goes away quickly on its own. Any discomfort can be treated with ibuprofen or paracetamol.

Should I get a brige or a denture?

A bridge is permanently fixed in your mouth and looks and acts more like natural teeth so eating foods like fresh fruit and veg is easier. Bridges are also easier to clean and less likely to affect your speech because they take up less space in your mouth. Dentures, on the other hand, need to be removed every day so your gums and palate can ‘breath’ to reduce the likelihood of disease and possible further tooth loss. Your North Hill dentist will discuss the benefits of both before you choose your treatment.
