Single Dental Implant

One Missing Tooth is One Too Many

It may not seem like a big deal to you, but even one missing tooth can lead to much bigger problems further down the road- including speech, eating and digestion issues.

At North Hill Dental in Colchester, our experienced team can give you a single implant that will look, act and feel almost exactly like a natural tooth, and it will restore your smile and improve your oral health, as well.

A Life Changing Treatment- For Nearly Everyone

Unlike the more traditional teeth replacement treatments such as dentures or bridges, a single implant is self-supporting, meaning we don’t have to use your surrounding teeth as anchors and, as a result, the treatment is less invasive.

Implants, compared to dentures and bridges, are also more comfortable, don’t affect your speech or the way you eat, are incredibly durable, don’t have to be removed and cleaned separately and can improve your self-esteem by restoring your smile to its former glory.

The Process

Replacing one tooth

Step 1

The condition of the bone is assessed with and an X-ray or 3D Bone Scan. An impression is made of the jaw and existing teeth, forming an important platform for treatment planning.

Step2

The dental implant is placed in the jawbone. No healthy teeth are affected or damaged. Unlike other replacement solutions such as a bridge or denture, the adjacent healthy teeth may need to be shaved/ ground down.

Step 3

The abutment is attached to the dental implant. A crown is then placed on the abutment, fitting perfectly at the edge of the gum.

Step 4

The new tooth is now complete and you can use this tooth as a normal tooth. It is virtually impossible to see the difference between the existing teeth and the new tooth.

FAQs

Is an implant suitable for you?

As a general rule, implants are a fantastic choice for adults over 18 who are in good general health.

The technology used in the treatment has advanced considerably over the years, and people who may not have been suitable for implants in the past can now benefit from this remarkable treatment. Your North Hill dentist will do a full assessment of your oral health to determine if you are a good candidate for an implant- the chances are excellent that you are!

How long does it take to place an implant?

The initial surgery to place the titanium screw can take anywhere from 2 - 3 hours depending on your individual circumstances. Once the screw is in place, we allow a minimum of 3 months for it to bond (integrate) with your bone structure.

When your implant has fully integrated, we make an impression of your mouth and create a custom-made final restoration (crown) which takes an additional two weeks. The final fitting generally takes one hour.

How long do implants last? Is the treatment safe?

Implants are a tried and tested treatment that is incredibly safe and will potentially last a lifetime if cared for diligently and properly. If you look after your implants and schedule regular maintenance check ups, it will make a real difference on their longevity.
