White Fillings

White Fillings

The Aesthetic Alternative

Unlike the traditional ‘silver’ amalgam fillings made from metal and alloys, white fillings consist of resin and inorganic materials such as ceramic and porcelain, which match more closely to the shade and colour of your teeth.

These ‘white fillings’ not only look and feel more like your natural tooth surface but they can also be used to restore damaged teeth.

The result is a brighter and more beautiful smile.

The Process

Putting White Fillings in Their Place

The process of fitting a white filling is essentially the same as getting a traditional amalgam filling. Your North Hill dentist will remove the decayed matter in your tooth and reshape the exposed area so it is ready for the filling to be placed. Then the white filling material is put in place and allowed to harden.

White fillings are becoming the standard in many dental practises and we find that some of our patients are deciding to replace their old amalgam fillings for health and aesthetic reasons. If you have any questions about which filling is best for you, please ask your dentist.

FAQs

Do white fillings hurt?

Just like many dental procedures, including traditional amalgam fillings, you may experience some sensitivity for a few days after the new white filling is put in place. This sensitivity, however, typically goes away on its own and most people experience no discomfort whatsoever.

Are white fillings as good as amalgam fillings?

Although both types of fillings ultimately serve the same purpose of protecting the tooth from further damage, white fillings take a bit more time and effort to put into place to ensure the new white filling matches the colour and contour of your tooth. However, we believe you’ll be more than pleased with the final result.

Are the fillings really less noticeable?’

Only the best quality composite materials are used in our white fillings and our highly trained dentists take the time and care to restore your tooth to its original shape and contour. When the process is fully completed they’re practically invisible!
